It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the college’s newly developed WebSite. The Website will provide a kaleidoscope view of what we proffer at Government Degree College Matour (Kangra). As we walk into a new academic year with anticipation of achieving sublime heights that the college strives for, I take this opportunity to share certain things that are so important and valuable for the all-around development of a child. At GDC Matour, we are very well aware of what parents wish for when they send their children to college. To attain academic excellence in an equally conducive environment, thereby making them employable, happy, and successful in life, is what we want for our children. Boasting a resourceful faculty, the college endeavors to provide the best of education and inculcate strong values in the students.

Education empowers society. As a seat of higher education, it becomes our responsibility to imbibe discipline-specific competencies as well as general skills to help students to train, adjust and empower themselves in this ever-changing world. Besides, Value education is equally important. Teachers as role models have a great responsibility in sculpturing the character of young minds and thereby shaping the character and destiny of the society and the nation. The faculty at GDC Matour also grooms the students with the basics of value-based education such as empathy, love, tolerance, understanding, and appropriate perspective thereby making them an integral part of their personality.

The pandemic has transformed the way we impart education. Keeping in tune with the changing times, GDC Matour smoothly switched towards the Online mode of teaching-learning in the times when the educational institutions were closed down due to pandemic. The NEP-20 stresses making the teaching process student-centric, thereby accepting the manifestation of various modes of imparting education to children. It promotes the use of vocational courses, multi-disciplinary courses, and multi-modal approaches thereby focussing on Blended teaching-learning. Keeping this thing in mind, our effort has been to train the students in accepting such changes. The online mode of teaching was very successful during the pandemic. Moving in this direction, the college has set up two Smart Classrooms that will make use of digital technology and not only make the teaching-learning process interesting but also meaningful and productive.

The college has also added another feather to its cap by starting its Rovers & Rangers unit from the current academic session. The process of forming the Old Students Association (OSA) has also been initiated.

Bob Beauprez has aptly remarked, “Education is a shared commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated students and enthusiastic parents with high expectations.” I have a strong conviction that as the parents go through this website, they will gain useful insight about the college, its values, motto, vision, and mission and will be inspired to let their children join this institution. Consequently, the shared commitment amongst all of us will help in manifesting the vision and vision of the college.
